Gardens & Houses of Ireland Tour Itinerary

Day 1 - Dublin
Pick up at Dublin Airport & transfer to Dublin City Centre. Visit Trinity College home to the famous 'Book of Kells'. Continue to St. Patrick's Cathedral, 12th century Cathedral once home to Dean Jonathon Swift. In the afternoon enjoy a visit to the National Botanic Gardens which were established in 1795 and today contains over 20,000 floral species. Dinner & overnight Dublin. 
Day 2 - Wicklow

Spend today in Wicklow, affectionately known as 'the Garden of Ireland', an area of lush mountains & valleys. Visit Fernhill Gardens & its Victorian laurel lawn, & Mount Usher Gardens dating back to 1868. Then visit the spectacular Powerscourt Gardens & House with its sublime blend of gardens, sweeping terraces, statuary & ornamental lakes with rambling walks, walled gardens, & over 200 variations of trees & shrubs. Afternoon visit of Russborough House which dates back to the 18th Century. Dinner & overnight Dublin.
  Day 3 - Kilkenny to Waterford

Depart for Waterford. En route visit Altamont Gardens, beautiful formal gardens with clipped yews, herbaceous borders & a lily pool. Winding paths lead around the lake with inviting small islands. Beyond this is a glen, carpeted with bluebells & ferns, leading on through ancient mossy oakwoods to the beautiful River Slaney. Continue to Kilkenny city to visit Rothe House which is an Elizabethian complex built in 1594.  Afterwards arrive in Waterford for dinner and overnight.
  Day 4 - Waterford

Today visit Kilmokea which is a privately owned Georgian rectory with two gardens; the first an Italian Garden & beyond this lies the lower garden with a very different mood it has a lake, a stream & paths through woodland among rare  plants. Visit Lismore Castle & Gardens which dates back to 1185, here poet Spenser wrote part of his 'Faerie Queene' in the gardens which boast a fine collection of magnolias & mamelias. Dinner & overnight Waterford.
Day 5 - Cork to Kerry

Journey to Kerry stopping off in Cork to visit Annes Grove Gardens, an attractive Robinsonian Garden, on a sloping site, surrounding an 18th century house overlooking the Awbeg River. The woodland garden contains a notable collection of rhododendrons & there is also a walled garden with 19th century hedged compartments, fine herbaceous borders & rose beds. Arrive in Kerry & free time for sightseeing. Dinner & overnight Kerry.
Day 6 - West Cork

Travel to West Cork. Enjoy a boat trip to Garnish Island & visit the gardens designed by Harold Peto. The island is renowned for its richness of plant form & colour changing continuously with the seasons. After visit Bantry House & Gardens, dated to 1740. The second Earl of Bantry collected many valuable artefacts which remain in the house today. The gardens are one of the best examples of an Italian style garden in Ireland, with panoramic views overlooking Bantry Bay. Dinner and overnight Kerry.
Day 7 - Kerry to Dublin, via Rock of Cashel

Depart Kerry today for Dublin. En route visit the awe inspiring Rock of Cashel, a limestone mound over 60 metres high and the noblest cluster of medieval monuments to be found in Ireland. Finally arrive in Dublin for dinner and overnight.
 
  Day 8 - Slán Abhaile!

Transfer to Dublin Airport for departure.
